Darcie Moran is a reporter, podcast producer and support editor for the Detroit Free Press.
Previously, she was an enterprise reporter covering southeast Michigan for MLive. She also co-hosted the “Michigan Crime Stories” podcast and led social media efforts for The Ann Arbor News in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She’s exposed a settlement in an improper arrest case, discovered new leads in a 25-year-old disappearance and shed light on a rash outbreak at a prison.
In addition, as a breaking news and public safety reporter at MLive, Darcie led an investigation into an unreported prison death that led to criminal charges.
She’s been awarded for best investigative reporting, best headlines, best writing, watchdog reporting, spot news coverage and best podcast. She helped produce a podcast that won a Wade H. McCree Award for the Advancement of Justice in 2022. She was a 2018 finalist for Young Journalist of the Year in the Society of Professional Journalists – Detroit and a 2015 finalist for the Michigan Press Association’s Rookie Writer of the Year.
Before joining the News in December 2014, Darcie worked as an intern at The Grand Rapids Press. She managed to graduate with honors from Michigan State University despite spending most of her time at the student newspaper, The State News.
In college, she also covered policy and politics for the Capital News Service, general assignments for The Saginaw News and the auto industry for Edmunds.com Inside Line.
Darcie enjoys painting, art museums, and spending excessive amounts of time and money in bookstores.
